Meet Cheryl Westbrook

“Just do you and have fun!”

Cheryl has been motivating Y members for 2 years through Enhance fitness. With a background in dance, she brings movement, fun, and a personal challenge to every class. Her sessions are all about helping members stay active, enjoy themselves, and celebrate their own progress—because at the Y, fitness should be as uplifting as it is effective.

What was your initial motivation for becoming a fitness instructor?
I was a dancer & then made the transition into fitness as an instructor in park districts.
What's your favorite aspect of teaching fitness classes?
Watching the members in my class working hard to stay fit & active while enjoying themselves.
Describe your teaching style in one sentence.
Fun & challenging to everyone’s personal ability.
 
How do you measure the success of your fitness classes?
By the success the members are achieving.
How does teaching group-ex classes impact your own fitness journey?
I can stay fit physically & mentally and enjoy my life.
What's some advice you would give to a new class participant?
I always say “ just do you and have fun”
Tell us about a highlight moment in your fitness instructor journey.
Cueing a move in class & realizing after I said the phrase it was inappropriate & some members realized it. We had a good chuckle about it.
What's a fun fact about you?
I love to travel!
