Meet Nikki Blocker

"We are all in this together"

Nikki brings a wealth of experience to the YMCA, having been a fitness instructor on and off for approximately 11 years. You can currently find her teaching weekly Christian Yoga and Barre classes at our West Branch – integrating the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits into our schedule. She provides a devotional approach to wellness and movement, ensuring every participant walks out of her class feeling better than when they walked in.

What was your initial motivation for becoming a fitness instructor?
I was encouraged to give it a try by supportive staff at the YMCA.
What's your favorite aspect of teaching fitness classes?
Seeing the friendships that have formed over the years between members and staff.
Describe your teaching style in one sentence.
We are all in this together at a level and pace that works for each one of us.
 
How do you measure the success of your fitness classes?
If someone walks out feeling better than when they walked in, the class is a success.
How does teaching group-ex classes impact your own fitness journey?
It holds me accountable to show up and to continue to learn and grow in my skills.
What's some advice you would give to a new class participant?
No one is judging you or watching you. Everyone is focusing on their workout and they want the best for you.
Tell us about a highlight moment in your fitness instructor journey.
A member tried a class for the 1st time last week, and came up to me after, and said, “I loved it! I will be back!”
What's a fun fact about you?
I don’t have a middle name.
