The Fox Valley Family YMCA gymnastics program is patterned after the U.S.A. Gymnastics Federation Junior Olympic Program. We offer beginner through advanced instruction. Our goal is to help each child achieve their highest potential through proper skill progression with safety as our number one concern.

We encourage all our participants to pursue their gymnastics dreams by providing them with the coaches, resources, and encouragement to do so in well-rounded programs for all ages and skills. Strength and aerobic conditioning are an instrumental part of the development in our participants as is building self-confidence, determination, teamwork, sportsmanship and awareness of their potential to set goals and achieve what they thought was impossible.

Our fully equipped YMCA gymnastics training facility, located at our Central Branch, includes uneven bars, balance beams, vaulting table, practice pit, and 40’ x 40’ spring floor exercise mat, plus a "little gym" specifically designed for our Tumbling Tykes with low beams, wedge mats, and tot-sized vault.

The Flyers are coached by Karen Oelker, Chloé Oelker, Tiffany Haag, and Kathleen Lavery. Our goal as coaches is to not only make this a strong, winning team but to teach our girls the importance of working together and supporting each other. We believe what they learn here will stay with them long after their gymnastics careers.

Screen-Shot-2017-11-20-at-1.26.09-PMThe Flyers Team consists of levels 3 through 8 and has approximately 40 gymnasts competing. Team try-outs are held each year in June as a part of our annual Summer Gymnastics Camp. All gymnasts that would like to be considered for the competition team must attend camp to be evaluated by the entire team coaching staff. View meet photos here.

For Chloé Oelker, this competitive gymnastics season is like no other; with a new season comes all new floor routines for her level 6 & 7 gymnasts.  And by new, we’re talking: last year’s trends are out and forget about those pre-purchased templates.

A custom choreographed floor routine for each competitive gymnast is no small task but Chloé finds joy in pulling from her own gymnastics, dance and music background.  An extensive performing arts background that includes over 14 years of dance in the Fox Valley community, 15 years of violin and 6 years of gymnastics training.

After 6 years of instructing, she’s a pro at getting to know each gymnast; taking in their personality, skill level and even their taste in music.  Her goal is to find the perfect niche between tumbling, dance and music.  And while her focus is on technique, she also values the importance of making the routines fun.

Erin Doles, a level 6 Fox Valley Flyer from Yorkville, says, “Chloé knows how to bring out my personality, she picks music I can dance to and really express myself. ”

At the drawing board, she constructs an outline for each routine that sticks to the extensive rules and requirements in place by USA Gymnastics.  Then, she adds music, sometimes taking up to 6 hours to edit a song!  So, not only will no other routine look like Chloé’s, no other routine will sound like it, either.
